Everyone needs to be more environmentally aware these days as we think about how we can take better care of our planet, and a lot of responsibility is falling onto businesses to lead the way.
By taking steps to be more aware of your impact on the environment, you can not only do your bit to create a greener future, but you can also show your customers that you care, and you are a responsible business to work with.
So, how do you do it? Everyone understands the importance of recycling and minimising emissions, but there are some other, more creative ways that you can be environmentally aware. Here, we take a look at some of our favourite ways to go green.
1. Choose green services
Much of the energy that we produce in the UK is from renewable sources, so have a look for energy companies who make the most of this. Many will show what percentage of renewable energy they use, so that you can make an informed decision on who to give your business to.
However, it is not just energy suppliers that you can look at – look at server hosting that is powered by green energy, websites that reduce the calls made to your server, and devices which are more energy efficient.
There are now lots of providers that can help to reduce your impact on the environment that goes beyond turning the lights off at night.
2. Green gifting
As a business, it is nice to send gifts to your clients in order to say thank you for their custom or to remind them of your services, so choosing environmentally friendly options can be both good for the environment and send a positive message about your green credentials.
It is possible to get really creative with your gifting, so this Christmas, instead of sending a present, send an eco friendly advent calendar that can remind people of you every single day of the festive season! These can be made from biodegradable materials; they can include your business branding and they can even include Fairtrade chocolate.
3. Make it rain
Conserving water can be very important, so making sure you turn taps off, and install dual flush toilets can all help, why not look at making use of one of our biggest sources of water? As Brits, we love to complain about the weather, so start collecting the rainwater that we have so that you can water your plants or flush your toilets.
4. Be part of the community
Don’t just think about what you can do, think about how you can have an impact on the wider community. Sending gifts sends a message to some, whilst getting involved in community initiatives can reach others.
Think about providing a drop off point for items that are typically difficult to recycle, such as crisp packets or batteries. It will show that you care about the environment and can draw attention to your business in new ways as people hunt you out for a different reason.
5. Go green inside
Did you know that plants can help remove some pretty nasty chemicals from the air? They are capable of absorbing all sorts of things, including carbon dioxide, and replacing them with oxygen.
That means, adding a little bit of greenery to the inside of your workspace can actually make your air cleaner without the need for technology or machinery, and it makes the place look a little bit nicer too!
Being aware of the impact your business can have on the environment is incredibly important at the moment, so get creative with your solutions!
