Snapchat was the original way to tell short stories online. Facebook soon realised the power of Snapchat and attempted to buy the company in 2013. Having failed to buy Snapchat, they attempted to create clones which never really took off, including Poke & Slingshot. Facebook is Instagram’s parent company and Instagram Stories is their best chance yet to make an impact on the market. Instagram has 300 million daily users versus Snapchat’s 150 million – this gives them power in numbers.
Many people still see Instagram Stories as a copycat version of Snapchat Stories and the functionalities are pretty similar. Snapchat still probably has the edge with the amount of extra features but the basics are the same.
