Your home is generally for relaxation and recreation, except for the kitchen, where most of the household chores are performed. For those of us who have slaved over an abundance of pots and pans at the cooker, or lugged piles of clothes into a washer, we’ve all wondered if there are ways to make these jobs less laborious. Now, we have our answer – smart kitchen technology.

Today’s futuristic kitchen contains appliances such as smart cookers, which can automatically calculate cooking times, and smart refrigerators which can tell you the contents of the refrigerator without you having to open the door and search inside. If you’re doing your grocery shopping and you’re trying to remember what you need, all you have to do is open an app that displays what is currently in your refrigerator so that you only buy the items that you actually need.

Revenue figures for smart appliances show that they are quickly becoming a common feature in modern day kitchens. In 2015, total worldwide sales of smart washers and refrigerators exceeded $6 billion, while the total value of the smart appliance market has grown from $40 million in 2010 to $9.7 billion this year, with a projection for 2019 of more than $26 billion.

This infographic from Pennywell shows how today’s kitchen technology can significantly alter how we perform duties such as cooking, washing, cleaning and shopping. The concepts that seem so futuristic and advanced now are soon set to become standard practice, so take a look below to see how the kitchen of tomorrow will operate.
