Holograms: Science-fiction Turned Science-fact

3D Holograms

3D Holographic Projection

Holographic projection technology is rapidly advancing and there are countless entrepreneurs that are conceptualising new applications for this novel technology. In fact, industry projections indicate that Hologram technologies have an estimated market value of between 500 million to 1 Billion Dollars in the first 18 months – and that’s only the beginning.

And so starts a new chapter of technology as science-fact meets science-fiction. So – who envisaged this new technology? Well – believe it or not, but there are various inventors and numerous technological innovations that has lead us into the age of holographic imaging.

The origins of holographic imaging in 2D are rather old and 3-Dimensional images on a 2-dimensional plane have been seen by most people alive today. Of late, 3D movie theatres have become very popular, because 3D films appear to be projected all around you.

Nowadays, man is playing god with holographic imaging, since we can create a 3D environment around by the press of a button. We are now able to Bend and Blur the lines between fantasy & reality with 3D holographic projections. But the question remains – where are we today with regards to holographic capabilities? Well there have been a number of major breakthroughs in holographic technology, especially in the entertainment industry.

In Japan the holographic projection technology has led to inventing synthetic Pop Stars (Vocaloids) complete with their album releases and live holographic concerts.

In coming years, we will see 3D Holographic video gaming, sophisticated IMAX-style Holographic Theatres and holographic coverage of major sporting events. From cartoons to real-time coverage – you will soon be able to see anything you want in an ultra-real dream world. But are there any dangers of blurring the lines of reality with 3D holographic technologies?

Unquestionably there would be a dark side to a technology like this. For instance, a holographic adult entertainment is bound to develop. We are not yet entirely sure how it will play out, but it is sure to generate quite a few dollars for the porn industry. And if that is not enough, well just wait until holographic technology is adopted by the advertising industry.

In the near future, most advertising and marketing will be 3D holograms which it will be everywhere and in all aspects of your life. Before long, within the next 5 years – people will have the latest iPhone which will be capable of holographic video projection.

So, what are the advantages of adopting holographic advertising techniques? For the most part, the benefits would include a more eco-friendly way of marketing your business. Think of all the paper wasted on flyers, posters, newsletters, catalogues and commercial signage billboards. The production of such marketing materials is not only pricey, but they are also extremely wasteful to the environment. Consequently – It would be much better employ the latest technology to get your marketing message across.

The only costs involved with holographic advertising would be the energy used to generate the digital 3D image. Other than that – it has no environmental consequences. No trees, water, paper industry or recycling required. So, you won’t only be saving money – you will also have a clear conscience with regards to the environment.
