Bringing the outside in thumb

Most of us have a pot plant or two somewhere in our homes. This infographic showcases imaginative and unusual ways to grow plants in your furniture and furnishings.

Designers have met the challenge of this year’s biggest interior design trend, Bringing The Outside In, head-on. Thinking outside of the flower pot they have devised alternative ways to grow plants inside and on furniture and light fittings.

Be inspired to grow grass as an alternative table top and seating. The whimsical lawn effect gives the look and feel of outdoor picnics without being plagued by flies, ants and wasps, if you keep your windows and doors closed. They will thrive offering a lush lawn effect when given plenty of natural, or artificial, light, and a little water. An occasional trim is all they need to stop them growing to tall and straggly.

Plants don’t have to be in the ground to grow, suspend them as a light shade or grow them inside a light fitting and they will have plenty of light to keep them happy. Watering should be carried out cautiously if you don’t want an electric shock!

Moss and lichens will also grow happily inside your home, their denseness and springiness makes them ideal for table tops, mats or living walls.

Be inspired to grow your plants in your furniture rather than pots. They will look stunning, make a fabulous conversational pieces and show that you have your green fingers on the pulse of the latest interior design trends.
