Nowadays, the so-called netizens — people who virtually reside in the Internet – can be found flocking to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. They number more than a billion, and thus have been targeted by business and companies. The numbers alone tell the current frenzy over social media sites.
But the current frenzy is not just all about social media sites as blogs are getting a fair share of the Internet world. Blogs are websites wherein users can publish any information, image or even videos. Usually, blogs are more personal, and allows more intimate engagement with visitors or readers.
Blogging do offer a number of advantages. These advantages are the reasons why blogs are able to compete, cooperate and coexist with social media sites.
One of the advantages of blogging is that it boosts a Netizen’s Web presence. Being on social media sites is one thing, and blogging is another. Blogging provides a “private” address for persons and business where they can share things and provide more information than they could by using their social media accounts. Blogs typically allow their users to customize their sites, thus bloggers could give some personal touch to their pages. Blogs are perfect tools for those who want to expand their presence beyond social media sites.
Blogging also allows people to hone their communication skills. People have different levels of communication skills, and some even do not have enough courage to voice their opinions and sentiments and share information to others via personal contact. However, the problem may lie in the fact that they don’t have a proper venue to let out what they want to say. Blogging and social media sites could help people to communicate with others through intelligent discussions and conversations. Blogging would allow people to speak their mind without reservations.
Another advantage of blogging is that the process itself is simple and yet powerful. One can create an account with one of the existing free blogging platforms that offer pre-made themes or templates. A blogger simply has to choose a preferred template and publish content. Unlike static Web sites, blogs do generate a lot of Internet traffic. This means that more people searching for a certain keyword similar to the blogger’s would be lead to the blog.
Blogging also provides another big advantage – it allows people to earn money while just going through their own interest. It is one of the features of blogging and also something that social media sites cannot afford to provide to their account holders. Bloggers could place ads on their sites. There are certain sites that offer to pay just to have their ads placed on blogs. Depending on the traffic generated by a blog, the larger is the amount of compensation received. Bloggers could also earn by becoming affiliates with other Web sites. Some bloggers, especially those having high rankings in search engine, can earn money by getting a private firm to sponsor or place ads on the blog.
Blogging do offer many advantages for netizens. Having some knowledge and some skills as well as some patience to create and maintain blogs would allow one to reap the fruits of the fact that he or she is a blogger.
