In United Kingdom it can be difficult for some people to imagine an engagement without a giant piece of diamond bling, but around the globe gifting such jewellery is far from the custom In fact, some cultures have exclusive ring traditions that are even more lovable and sentimental. Though the custom of exchanging wedding bands and engagement rings looks like just a ritual, it is in fact referred to in the wedding ceremonies of a number of religions. The ritual statements of the wedding ceremony in the Roman Catholic, Jewish and Church of England marriage liturgies all refer to the wedding ring, while the Eastern Orthodox ritual points out that the groom gestures with the ring before placing on the bride’s hand.
